Breitling is a brand of Swiss watches, initially from St. Imier, in the Jura mountains of Switzerland, where
Leon Breitling established a workshop specialising in making chronographs and precision counters for scientific
and industrial purposes. In 1915 Leon Breitling's son, Gaston, createsd the first wristwatch chronograph and
subsequently provided pilots with the first wrist instruments. By 1923 Breitling had developed the first ever
independent chronograph pushpiece. Breitling were also introduced the first ever self winding chronograph, in 1969.
The watchmaker offers Certified Chronometers designed primarily for aviation use but are most frequently worn
as high-end luxury watches. All Breitling watches are manufactured in Switzerland and are made from Swiss
components. Raw movements are obtained from ETA and Valjoux and are modified in the Breitling
Chronometrie Workshops (former Kelek S.A.) before undergoing extreme COSC
(Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) certification.
Today, Breitling is still established in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the town where Leon Breitling opened his first
chronograph factory almost 125 years ago.
